Kinako is roasted soybean flour, a staple ingredient in Japanese confectionery, made here as a whole-grain product from Hokkaido-grown soybeans that are roasted and ground with their skins left intact for extra fibre and flavour.
It has a fine texture and a warm, nutty, slightly sweet flavour reminiscent of roasted nuts. It is traditionally dusted over mochi, warabimochi, and dango, and is also stirred into milk, smoothies, or yoghurt, or used in baking.
- Origin: Japan, Hokkaido
- Net weight/volume: 145g
- Category: Flour
- Usage: Sprinkle over mochi, dango, or warabimochi, or mix into drinks, yoghurt, and baked goods.
- Storage: Store in a cool, dry place; refrigerate after opening as roasted soybean flour can turn rancid once exposed to air.
